I don't know whether anyone realizes just how valuable this site is for the newbie or for the veteran who's doing something new to him.
I bought an old Four Winns and knew nothing about it. Now, after three months, I'm confident that I know more about the boat and its drive system than the previous owner, who had it for a decade. When I bought it I was a babe in the woods on I/O's - and what I bought was a Merc 470, to boot!
I describe something and ask for your thoughts...-bingo-...I have several perspectives on the issue. I decide I want to do something on the boat and ask for advice...-bingo-...I've got numerous pieces of advice, written legibly, that guide me through the task. I want to browse through posts concerned with issues similar to mine and - bingo - there they are. Even stuff from five years ago is at my fingertips. And regarding the 470 - I'm as knowledgeable in a few months as someone who has had one for ten years.
My point is that this forum is an absolute TREASURE. All of you who have been contributing for years may not see it ("...forest for the trees...") but all us newbies do.
THANKS A MILLION everyone for keeping this thing going. As time passes I will try to make my own contributions in keeping with the excellence represented by this forum.
