I have been visiting the forums for about an hour now after finishing the menu for our family feast. My wife and I like to have one of the major holidays at our home. With my chef abilities they all know they will eat real good but we don't tell them what we are having. We just let them know that if they want anything other than milk or pop to drink then they should bring it. It only takes us two days to get everything ready but it is a labor of love!!!!Our first one was 17 years ago two months after we bought the home our kids know and love as home. I feel this Thanksgiving will be extra special as our son will be home on leave from the Marine Corps. I wish you all a HAPPY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!THANKFULLY AND RESPECTFULLY>>BART SR.

BartSr: Happy for you that your son will be with you on Thanksgiving. Ours won't be here this year, but is safely back from the Middle East and we will be especially thankful this year. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Don't have to run around like a madman buying presents, decorations, etc. Well, at least the wife dosn't and then takes out her frustration on you. Happy Thanksgiving to you and to everyone else.

Re: THANKSGIVING>>MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY

To me thanksgiving is a great holiday. Many of us, myself included, tend not to realise just how good we have it. We take too many things for granted these days. Think about how it would be if you woke up tomorrow and your water didn't run. What would you do? Think about what it would be like if the lights went out and didn't come back on, ever. What if you went to all the supermarkets just to find that they were empty buildings. What would you do? We too often forget about how well we have it in life. Every day I think about stuff like this. When I eat a delicious sandwich I stop and think about people who are fortunate enough to have their own. Too often I see other people turning their noses up at things like certain types of clothes, shoes, food, etc. I think this way of thinking just shows how much we take for granted. I encourage all of you to think about what I have said. Don't let thanksgiving be the only time you think about these things. I think it will make us all better people to put these possibilities in perspective. I know teenagers are perceived to be the worst at taking things for granted these days, however, don't let a stereotype fool you. I am one myself. We all do this, so we all can relate. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

James

PS: A boy once cried because his shoes weren't the newest Air Jordans....till he saw another boy with NO shoes.

Yes it will be great to have Bart Jr. home even for a short while.Jennifer (wife) and Nicole (Coley, daughter) are flying out for his graduation ceremonies on the 22nd. Jennifer is on pins and needles already. As am I!!! My next favorite holiday is 4th of July also. Out of three boats in the immediate family mine is the only pleasure/speed boat so it is pretty busy on that day. We all love it!!!!!!!!!! Picnicing by the lake until almost dark then to the brother-in-law's place around the fire pit until whenever.Great family fun!!!!Wishing you and yours all the best!!!!THANKFULLY AND RESPECTFULLY>>BART SR.

Continuing the shoes theme: Before you judge the other guy, walk a mile in his shoes. Then you will be a mile away and have his shoes, too. HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Re: THANKSGIVING>>MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY

JEE...I was just re-reading your eloquent thoughts and was reminded that you are younger than my son (Jr. is 20) and you both think a lot alike. As the holidays draw near with all the family gatherings filled with caring and sharing WE in Maple Lake will be sending our hopes and prayers out to Brian and Lisa Guimond.Divorced now but he still lives across the street from us. The real point of all this is their only child JOSH. He grew up here and is good friends with Jr. We have a lot of video of them growing up together. They were classmates all through school and graduated in 2000. Josh was Class President and Honor Student. Josh is a student at St. John's University. Unfortunately Josh has been MISSING since Saturday night. The FOURTH student to disappear in Minnesota in about a month. This young man never harmed anyone his entire life and we are shocked and saddened by this event. There are very few clues at this point. What I'm trying to say is that we need to be more thankful for all our blessings whether they be big or small. In our imperfect world we need all the goodness we can get but must not forget those among us that are less fortunate in many ways. It's very late here and I'm rambling(confused, hurt, sad) so please pray for JOSH. THANKFULLY AND RESPECTFULLY>>BART SR.

Bart, reassure Brian and Lisa that my family will pray for the safe return of of their son Josh. What a terrible time Brian and Lisa must be going through.I can't even imagine. There are some folks at our church that are as close as one can get to God and still be here.He will be in their prayers as well.

Re: THANKSGIVING>>MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I'm sorry to hear about Josh BartSr. I hope he is ok. My thoughts are with your family and his. I know what it's like to loose a family member. I lost my mom when I was 13. I look at all the positive things that came out of it as a blessing. I hope it doesn't come to that with Josh. Also, your son isn't much older than me. I'm 19 and will be 20 In February. There are so many things to be thankful for. Crab bait, what you said is exactly what I was trying to say. I was trying to paraphrase it. I think you or someone else posted that and it struck a nerve with me. I love this forum. There are so many good people here. Thanks for everything.

James

HI ALL!!!!!Thanks to everyone for all the thoughts and prayers for JOSH!!!!!There is nothing new but the story went NATIONAL earlier this week. It is really difficult to talk much with Brian and Lisa as they are surrounded so I keep my load off of them.Even though we are overshadowed by this and all the other wrongs in society we are going to do as well as we can for a SEMI-HAPPY Thanksgiving..Our son will be home tomorrow night and has extended leave until Jan.2nd!!I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all and yours A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!THANKFULLY AND RESPECTFULLY..BART SR.

Bart Sr.

Thanks for adding this thread.

We should ALL be thankful that we live in a great country (no inflamatory intensions for all of you in other parts of the world). We Americans respect you and are VERY thankful for your freindship.

Our forefathers had a vision that could only be; well-Higher Power inspired.

I'm very thankfull for that.

For all of you out there, including other locals outside the U.S.-Happy Holidays to you too. :D

I'm going to eat turkey until the triptofane (I think I spelled that right) takes over and puts me into a stupor.

Have a happy Thanksgiving all. I am on my way out in a few hours. Have 4 - 5 liter kegs of german beer on the way and all the turkey you can eat. It should be a great time. I hope you all have the same.

Best wishes to all on Thanksgiving.

Leaving in a little while to pick up the Ex and travel to middle daughter's home for the celebration. Should be back Friday.

We will have three of our four children, three of our eight grandchildren(two with their spouses), our one great grandchild and a dozen or so in-law relatives and significant others. Makes for a great day.

Be safe and count your blessings. I will certainly be counting mine. :)

Dang those was good cookies Bart!!! Glad to see ya still kicking and how's that Yamaha SD doing? Won't see my son this Thanksgiving but have already made arangements to fly him in for Christmas. He's in the Coast Guard stationed in Washington State. Boy do they grow up when they leave home. Went in as a mechanic and you would think being he grew up in the family boat repair shop, he would have picked up a few things. But no, has to call home when they hit a snag on one of the boats for some fatherly advise. Chef Bart, why is it when you tell folks you are frying a turkey, they ask if they can bring one over to be cooked also? I now have three on the list besides the one we're cooking for ourselfs.
