Hi Chaps!
Firstly, I fear I may need a new starter. Are they still available, if so, where?
Secondly, was the 40402s model fitted with an automatic choke solenoid (attached to the underside of the carb). If so , again, can I still get one?
Thanks
tich. :(

Hi, Tich.

Jeez!! A '64 'Rude isn't old. It's only 40 for crying out loud. 'Rudes aren't old 'til they are older than Rickdb1boat. :D They do get old before they are older than the Ancient Mariner, though. :)

I doubt that you need a new starter. Possible, not likely. There are too many much simpler causes that look like a starter problem. Check out the starter circuit troubleshooting in "Outboard wont start" in FAQ.

If your starter is bad, the economical solution is rebuild by an auto starter rebuild shop.

Good luck. :)
