So in revisiting this option this fall, I've rebuilt heads and cleaned up this ol motor even threw a couple coats of paint on it looks pretty good runs absolutely flawless, in the driveway anyways. Fires up as soon as I can let go of screwdriver jumpering starter. Have all components including the SX Blue Grey Volvo drive paint as opposed to the AQ Grey so when I'm all done it'll look real good. Here's the question Transom Shield #876147 is on hand buddy has one 4 hours down the road from here but I have #876146 already on boat, only has one plug in place of a rubber hook on starboard side but my exaust "y" "grommett" 826443 has a hole for water on both sides of main exaust, trouble is same as 876147 shield only has 1 hole too meant for AQ260b's. What gives there? Can I plug off the port side or both sides before I bolt the Y pipe "grommett" to the transom shield and just have water travel through main exaust I'm thinking there's no real reason to remove/replace transom shield. Is there guys? Other than a transom inspection I suppose which I'n m sure is fine since my Aq131D 230 has been hanging off it for 20 years with no motor mounts, meanwhile the rubber band AQ131D I have is still flawless as well just need more power for my heavy cuddy, legs off in great shape motors coming out this weekend clean up bilge for a week then install "New" 260B with 280B leg right gear ratio etc. Thanks in advance again guys hopefully I can have ready to rock before the water gets "hard" up here this winter.

The V8 needs both idle relief ports in the Y pipe. The right transom shield is needed. You also haven't addressed the issue of the wrong gear ratio in the outdrive. A V8 needs a 1.68 gear ration and your 4 cylinder ratio is 2.30. And before you ask, NO, just changing the prop won't work. If it did, the manufactures wouldn't have different ratios for different engines.
