Gee! I'm surprised that no one mentioned the passing of Billy Preston. :(
He was a very talented musician.

Had to do a google search to even find out who he was.
He lead an interesting life and I wonder why "I" have never heard of him before?
I loved the Beatles in 64-65 and 66 but after that they didn't offer much for me. He toured with a lot of other big stars and was well known on the inside circle but I still have never heard of him before??

I almost posted something too Darth. I did know of him and was discussing it on a list I am loosely involved with. I grew up with a Beatles fan for a mom . . . Who here has seen Let It Be? I will never forget the rooftop jam with Preston at the keys.

I remember him very well.Paul McCarthy really pushed him in Europe where he was famous. It is probably thanks to him that the Beatles stayed together long enough to finish "Let It Be".

Seen it quite a few times, those were exciting times for me growing up in the UK, the Beatles were of course like gods, i don't think it was possible to find anyone at the time who did'nt think that they were fabulous.

Re: Thats the way God planned it

I was in the UK when I was 6 years old and Yellow Submarine came out. My mom liked their hair so much that she had my brothers and me grow ours out when we got home to the States. We were the only long haired little boys anybody had ever seen before . . . :D

I remember him but his one hit was kind of a novelty tune to me. He was pretty good on the synthesizer.

I saw him play a few times, used back up the Rolling Stones on tours and members of the Beatles when they did solo tours.

Thing I thought was weird was that he died of kidney failure. Kidney failure is not something that kills people anymore, not when you live in Arizona. With regular dialysis a person can live indefinitely without their kidneys. But Preston was also in a coma for several months prior to his death so maybe it was a decision by family to let him go.

He had a few solo hits with That's the Way God Planned It, Nothing from Nothing, Will It Go Round in Circles, but his biggest hit was an instrumental called Outta Space.
