Well the easy part to explain. The boat has no seats. The floor is salvagable, but I think I am going to put that project aside for a winter date in hopes of getting in the water (SPLASHED I believe it is called). There is a little rot on the floor near the transom, but its mostly solid. Anyway, I am pretty sure about my seat design and layout as I will be building them, but I was wondering if there are any plans floating around. I am thinking to just use marine ply, enclosed box style seats, and a pad, eventually to be fabriced. I am also not sure how to mount them to the floor? Maybe some ways are better than others? Seat height is another question, is there a regulation, does it matter, or should I stack books until I feel comfortable? There are a million other questions about this restore I have, but I will ask in other threads and such. Thanks for any and all help!

Hi,

If you have 'a little rot on the floor', then there is likely to be more rot underneath, in the stringers. When the floor is gone, the transom often is as well. Before you start work on this, it might be worth drilling some test holes to see what you are dealing with. If you have lots of rot, putting seats on top of this may simply be putting a solid seat on an unsound foundation. Be a pity to spend money on that if the real problem is elsewhere.

Before you start this, read through some of the resto threads to see what is involved.

In terms of the seat plans - there are a variety of methods to fasten seat boxes to the floor, ranging from using angle brackets, to building a solid box, to building cleats, to using hinges, to simply buying some of the wise seats and installing them as per manufacturers instructions.
