Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

Nope, it was a brand new model in the showroom. The 4.3 was an option according to the sheet that was on it. In fact, this boat was ordered by a customer who decided on a larger boat. Maybe it was a dealer built monster?

This must have been a 185. Bayliner has never had a 4.3 as an option in the '03-08 175 models.

Is there really that much room in a 175 that you could stick a 4.3L in there. If it was a dealer built monster, I wonder what dealer would take the liability of that. Something here smells fishy to me.

Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

I have a couple things for ya since I own a Maxum 1800mx which is the same hull and mostly the same interior. I emailed Maxum and was told that there is in fact wood in the transom of the 1800mx and it's a 1" layer encased in glass and a 5/8" layer encased in glass. Perhaps the bigger boats don't have the wood in the transom but this information came right from Maxum. My understanding is that the Bayliner also has a wood floor covered in carpet unless you opt for the fiberglass liner in which case you get a full fiberglass tub and snap-in carpet.

The engine compartment is a little tight and I had a hard time getting a second battery behind the starboard rear seat. I'm 5'6" and 165lbs and there's enough room for me to look all around the engine and possibly do some maintenance work if I had to. I didn't see it in the pics, but perhaps when the added the cupholders to the engine cover, they added some sound deadening as well because it's not as quiet as I'd like. It's not loud, but it's not quiet either.

Regarding the 50mph claim, when I did my demo ride, it was me and one guy from the dealer on a very calm lake (probably 320lbs of people) with half tank of fuel and the speedo had us over 50mph at one point. I have a GPS now and based on how far off the speedo is most of the time, I would have to say that we were very close to 50mph on the lake if we didn't get there. On Monday, I had the Maxum out in the Atlantic ocean just off Cape May, NJ and it was a very calm day with 4 adults and we got to 41mph on gps with a full load of fuel and enough gear to keep 3 women happy all day. This is with a 14.5-19p prop.

If you look at the port side console in the pics, on the Maxum there's a hatch there and the stereo is inside the compartment. Perhaps this is an option on the Bayliner.

This is my first brand new boat and I have to say that I'm very happy with the quality whether you call it a Maxum or a Bayliner. If you go with the Bayliner tho, try to opt for the fiberglass liner as it will last much longer than the wood floor covered in carpet and the carpet is removable for cleaning.

I don't think that is an option on the 175. Bayliner seems to have one formula per boat and sticks with it. My 2008 175 indeed has a wood floor. Heavy, unfinished glass on the wood and carpet. I could be wrong on the option but I looked every 175 and they all were alike minus the outside packages.

Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

The fiberglass liner starts on the 185 as a 786 dollar upgrade an remains and upgrade one the 195 and 205

It becomes standard on the 225 and 245 bowriders

You have to read the spec carfully as it is different on each model group and it does not seem to be offered on the Discovey 195 and 215

Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

So after reading the consensus of this review, it seems to be that the Bayliner 175 is the fastest in it's class, one of the best handling in rough water . . . . and . . . the least expensive?

Not to mention, the most available interior room (I can't think of another 18' or smaller with more cockpit space).
I think we may be seeing quite a few of this model being purchased especially in light of the current fuel prices.

Fuel economy is the big reason I went with the 17.5' with the 3.0L instead of the 18' with the 4.3L. It didn't hurt that I got more interior room at the same time since it doesn't have the sundeck out back.

Space was the number one reason I went with my 175. Then price. Now that I have the space, a swim-platform is next to give me the sun-deck/play area and I still get to keep my space.

Does yours have the swim platform in the pics or is yours different? The rear of mine looks just like the Bayliner 175 in the pics except my grab handle is metal and shiny.

As far as I know there is not an OEM swimplatform for the 175, I am going to buy my through www.swimplatforms.com They make custom ones for most boats. They are a bit pricey but I have heard nothingbut good things.

Were there any storage compartments under the bow seating?

Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

I am considering purchasing this boat as my first new family boat. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the best price? Even though the MSRP is less than $13,000 the dealers I have been to have it for much more including freight charges, dealer service charges, etc. Also, the ones I have looked at have the bimini and possibly some other add-ons. The best price I have had offered so far is $15,969 out the door -- this includes the bimini, stereo package, coast guard kit, all dealer charges, state tax, county tax, and title and registration. Does that sound fair? Or, is that still quite a bit over the basic MSRP?

Also, how do you guys think this boat compares to the Tahoe Q4 SS? My wife likes the way the Tahoe looks much better, but the out the door price on the Tahoe is about $3,000 more than the 175 Bayliner.

Thanks.

Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

I have been doing a lot of reading and comparing myself, mostly between 3 boats, Bayliner 175, Glastron 175 and Tahoe Q4. From reading and talking to people, the Tahoe has a rep for being a lesser quality boat than the other two. When I purchase it will be the Bayliner 175 as a first new boat. Hope that helps.

It seems as if these reviews are not synced with the ones on the main boating page any more.

First, I want to say that I recently came accross a real gem. A 2001 Bayliner Capri 175 that looks like it just came out of the showroom. She's been stored inside for the past 4 years and before that got very little use. So little use in fact that I had to replace the steering cable because it dried up. This boat was a few years before the redesign and drop in price to the $9999.00 price. Aside from the hinged cover it is what the 09 175 seems to be returning to. It has the APS hull which they went away from with the economy model. If anyone has any comments or experiences with this boat I'd love to hear it. Considering the coins that I left in my wallet by finding this boat, it's going to be hard to wipe the smile off my face. Being recently recertified as single and an 11-year-old girl this boat fits me real well.

Second, I asked about a swim platform for this boat, and the dealer said the 175s were not built (reinforced) to handle a platform, and that the outdrive was an issue when raised. If anyone else is looking into this I am very interested in what you find out. Thanks for the link for SPs, I see that they offer one, so I am very interested!

Re: The 2009 Bayliner 175 review

I have this very same boat except it is a 2008 model. The only difference is I chose the lounge seat option on the driver's side because I like to be able to sit on top of the seat so that I have a better view of the surroundings while driving. I actually just got back from the lake with mine about 3 hours ago. I paid $14609 out the door for my 2008 back in June. With me and another passenger, 9 fishing reels, a full tank of gas, 8 life jackets, a 18 pound anchor, battery jump box, 2 huge tackle boxes and a huge cooler on a some chop into the wind we got the boat to 49 on the speedo. This is only the 5 th time I have taken it out and am still getting used to it. With 5 people in the boat I have gotten it to 47 on the speedo on some chop. This boat is basic but it is rock solid. It jumps on plane and will pull skiers and tubes all day long. It has the same exact hull as a Searay and I think it handles pretty well in rougher water for only 17.5 feet long. I have had it out when I storm blew in that had 50 mph winds and we went through some large waves but I never felt unsafe in it. On july 4 th we ran it all day long with 8 people in the boat and were still hitting low 40's in very rough chop. If you are on the fence about whether to buy this boat, you will not regret it. Bayliner also has great resale. My previous bayliner was a 1988 model and I sold it for $3400 back in 2007.
