Re: The Boat Ramp Follies, for new boat rampers

:cool::cool: What a great post!!! Before you buy a boat it should be the law that everyone take some kind of course on how to properly launch a boat. I have seen boats sink due to not checking if the drain plug is installed, boats that when started take off by themselves when started up causing severe damage to boat, trailer, and tow vehicle . I can't count the times that it has taken over 30 minutes to launch while ignorant people decide to carry on a extensive conversation right at the ramp blocking the rest of us from doing our thing!!!! It only get's worse in the summer when there's more weekend warriors that don't know a thing about launching or retrieving a boat. Dad's showing off to junior and the little woman how macho they are with a boat that they don't properly know how to operate :eek::eek: a disaster in the making. Being in Southern California these people take over every body of water causing accident's and even death's every year!!! Truly to fish on these lakes with the crowded idiot's isn't worth it. I like to set up a lounge chair in the area next to the ramp and just watch the show. Keep it COOL LDJ

Great post! Should be part of the boating manual. I even take it one step futher though. I put my batteries on the charger the night before and I always start the motor in the driveway on muffs before I head to the lake. Just a triple check for my own comfort.

That's great info. I may be one of the people that many get frustrated with or laugh at. I'm new to this. Launching and loading the boat gives me no trouble. I am lousy at backing the trailer down the ramp. That said I've only done it 3 times at the launch. I practice in my driveway and I am going to tape off some lines and do some more backing practice in the loading dock of the walmart that just moved in my neighborhood so no one will have to laugh at me anymore.
