Just ran across this link on another board and thought I'ld share it here. I don't know the history of the place but seems like it could be a fun place to explore. A little far from me though.

Dude, how interesting, but how sad at the same time. Amazing site, just picture how old some of them boats or remains of are.

Could you picture restoring any of them boats ? That would be a restore project :).

If I may share a little of a story or for what it is worth (not to hijack). I recall hearing of an old boat here in Alabama that was heading out from Montgomery, it's destination I can't remember. The boat sank in a river and supposedly had allot of lute (money and then some) on it. They say that the where abouts of the sunken boat is unknown but it sunk on this one river and supposedly during winter level people can see a boat's remains in one particular spot on that river. I wished I could remember more of the story, it seems like I found that story on the internet.

Thanks for sharing that, pretty neat. I still haven't gone through all the photos yet, I am still browsing through them.

I spotted a lifeboat in the first pic.

That might be a worthy resto. project. :)

My mom would say our backyard looks like that. Especially when we had 6 back there, she about went nuts.

Those pictures are very good works of art. They romaticize the old Rossville Boat Yard in Staten Island, NY. But it is best viewed through photographs. Can you say "Asbestos, Mercury, Lead, PCB's," etc?

I wonder why the tons of steel and especially brass/bronze ships propellers are still sitting there when they have tremendous recycle value. Could be because no one wants to get involved with the cleanup of the site?

Mark, you're most likely right on both aspect's of your post. Those factors excluded, it would be an interesting walk about through the place. Although, I've always been the type to find great joy from walking through the "ruins" of bygone eras, I tend to shy away from them when my well being is in danger though.
From newer images it appears that it is being cleaned out some. Either that or the boats are disintegrating beyond recognition.
