Heard this back in the 40s about a supposed event in the thirties.
There was a wealthy Englishman touring the Alps in his old Rolls Royce. He hit a pothole and broke a spring in the front.
He limped in to a hotel and wired RR that he had a broken spring.
The next day a tech showed up in a new RR with a spring. He told our Englishman to continue his tour in the new one while he fixed the problem.
When done with the tour the Englishman returned to the hotel to find his car fixed and his hotel bill paid. The tech left in the new RR.
Our friend waited to get a bill from RR. None came. After several months he wired RR, explained the situation and asked where his bill was.
Their reply: "You must be mistaken miLord. Rolls Royce motorcars do not break springs."
