I found this while reading the Sydney Morning Herald.

Aussies among the world's booziest daters: survey
February 8, 2006 - 8:50AM

Australians are among the booziest daters in the world and least likely to say intelligence turns them on, an international survey has found. :D

Eighty per cent of Australian men and 70 per cent of women admitted to drinking too much to try to impress possible partners, according to the annual "Romance Report" by publisher Harlequin.

The survey of 1,500 men and women on the dating scene in 16 countries, including Australia, was released today in the lead up to Valentine's Day on February 14.

It also found Aussies, 100 of whom were included in the survey, were the least likely to nominate intelligence as their top turn on.

No Aussie men and only 10 per cent of their female counterparts thought intelligence was more important than physical appearance, a sense of humour and confidence.

Romance Report spokeswoman Margaret Lawson said Australia had emerged as the nation with the booziest daters in the survey just ahead of Britain, where 90 per cent of male and 50 per cent of female participants turned to alcohol to lure a partner.

"Maybe we do feel a lot more confident after a few drinks ... perhaps it loosens them up and they feel more attractive," Ms Lawson said today.

"A lot of people may feel it brings out the most sparkling aspects of their personality."

A sense of humour was more appealing to the Australians surveyed than financial status - a trend reflected worldwide.

"Globally, forget the hefty bank balance because a sense of humour is the factor that is the biggest turn off if you don't have it," Ms Lawson said.

Meanwhile in Australia, 30 per cent of women thought you could date only one person to find "the one" while 30 per cent of the men wanted to date 20 or more women before settling down, according to the survey.

Eighty per cent of Australians interviewed believed the best way of meeting a prospective partner was through friends.

But only 10 per cent of the men thought online dating was the most effective way of starting a relationship.

In France, Brazil, Italy and Spain, physical appearance was listed as a respondents' top priority during a first encounter.

That they drink is immaterial.

It is WHAT they drink that matters.

Does Fosters make a single malt?

I personally reckon the survey got it right, for once.
1. Who the he!! wants an intelligent female? Be honest.......I sure don't. (I keep telling the wife, "I didn't marry you for your brains darl". (and she tells me she "didn't marry me for....er......something else.)
2. Physical appearance, a sence of humor and confidence were the top priorities for Okkers.
Dead right mate!!!!!!!!!!!
Can there be anything else??????

If you can't take a wee sheila out, down a slab of stubbies between you, have a great laugh and good time, where's the fun in dating.

I feel sorry for the "intelligent ones". They'r like blxxdy dive-bombers, always travel in groups, to the pub, to the bar, to the dunny, to the taxi: and they wonder why the blokes arn't interested in their brains.

If you don't believe in this study, then take it from me, being an Okkers is a whole heap of fun, especially when the sheilas want to have as much fun as you do.

Whoooooooooppeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

Cheers
Phillip

Australia sounds like my kind of country, I have got to visit once.

But I will leave the Vegemite off my toast. That stuff tastes like squashed burnt beans...We'll what do you know.

Ken

As to what vegemite is...... it is made from yeast extract, basicly a by product of beer. Any wonder we love it so much.
The mistake most forigners make with it, is they spread it on like it was peanut butter. That will burn you mouth out! Just a light smear is all that is needed. It's also realy good for nausea. Vegemite on toast(dry) stays down.

J.B. I'm going to have to plead ignorance, what is single malt?

Is it like Bitter? or Ale? Chill filtered?

not that I care, I mostly drink spirits.

It is Scotch Whiskey that is not a blend . . . Ya know, Glenfiddich as opposed to Johnnie Walker. I am assuming it is one of your favorites ;)

Re: The cat's out of the bag about our Australian friends

I have a particular Ozzie mate who will drink his way through a couple of large fridges of beer in a single weekend...almost non stop drinking the whole time. You have to see it to believe it. Strange thing is that he's always thirsty, no matter how many drinks he's had. Pre visit I stock up with booze like I'm having a large party...

When he first met his wife (another thirsty Aussie) they apparently for months went out every single night until the small hours, both trying to outdrink (or just keep up with) the other. They were each confiding with friends that they were starting to fear for their health (alcohol poisoning, lack of sleep etc) but did not want to be outdone...fortunately they managed to come to some sort of arrangement that ensured they survived the courtship period...

Needless to say, I'm not surprised by the results of this survey...
:D

There's an Australian wine label that's currently fashionable in these parts...Yellow Tail...actually a good value as wine goes.

A 2 at 10 can be a 10 at 2......and when I was in the ARMY we would be on the road. The motto was "When the standards are low, lower your standards" or "Drink until she's beautiful"...or looking back that could have been drink until I am beautiful
