Re: The Chicks

I heard they were going to sing the anthem at opening day in Milwaukee, but had to cancel because they didn't know the words.

I wonder how the crowd in Texas is going to respond to this???? I would love to be a vendor selling rotton fruit and vegetables before this game. :p

Just imagine what they would have to endure had they been wrong!

Re: The Chicks

PW, do you even know what they said, and where they said it? Apparently not. It had nothing to do with being right or wrong. It had to do with being arrogant.

Re: The Chicks

Instead of griping about what the Dixie Chicks said, or where they said whatever it was that they said, How about saying how proud you all are to be able to live in a country where one can excercise the right to say whatever, wherever and whenever.
Celebrating such freedoms is what being an American is all about, it is what seperates us from the rest of the world in which we live.

Do you realize that if that was true how many TRUE Texans would say that the chicks needed the chit slapped out of them, even now? Of course we wouldn't want to threaten them,so we will just keep quiet.

Re: The Chicks

Celebrating ones speech? NO. The right is one thing, how that right is used is another. Lots of vietnam vets celebrating hanoi jane? NO. Tokyo Rose was found guilty of war crimes. Was she just expressing herself?

We have the right to say what we want, we don't have the right to be heard or appreciated. I think when Americans go overseas and pander to wrongthinking leftists, they don't deserve celebration, they deserve our disgust.

Pointer, Not celebrating ones speech but celebrating ones right to the practice free speech, whether it is wrong or right or whether i agree or disagree with said persons is not the issue.

Re: The Chicks

Darth, this comment is not directed at you, and I feel sure you are not like this, but it's interesting to me that we are all asked to celebrate that right to free speech when something is said that is liberal, anti-American and certianly when someone attacks Christianity. I rarely see freedom of speech celebrated when someone speaks up for Christianity or has a belief that is Biblically based and conflicts with the worldly view.
I don't intend for that to be inflamatory. Sorry if it comes across that way.

I certainly agree with you, I am not a religious man and i believe that both political parties do not have in hand the true interests of the American people.

How many Texans do you think have agreed with these girls all along? Just because they vocally disagreed with a Bush does not make them bad artists.
But then again we are dealing with people who voted for the likes of Tom Delay.

Rolmops, you underestimate Texans, we vote for whom ever we feel will be beneficial to our country (Texas).
You may feel that Tom DeLay is bad for New York, but that is not our problem.

I see what you are saying now Darth. I must say that when someone pulls the little stunt they did, I celebrate my freedom of speech. ;)

Re: The Chicks

To me being an American is not a brand or a logo to be worn on ones chest, being an American is more than that, it is a concept of ideas that are infectious and my hope is for the whole darn world to catch it.

Yep.

It sends a pretty clear message to the rest of the world that if you dare to express yourself honestly, as an American, we will launch a concerted effort to deny you an opportunity to make a living.

And this is the celebrated show of democracy we wish to export to the rest of the world.

I would say arrogant is the right word.

Entertainers and politics. They just don't mix. I don't care if it's Tom Selleck supporting guns or Rosie O'Donnel against guns.

Just do your professional gig; sing, dance, act, whatever, but don't tell me what your stand is on a political issue. You won't change my personal believe.

Why do you care what they think, Tyme?

We did have Brittany Spears come around. as she was quoted as saying "I, like, support our , like, President, and like, I agree with like, everything he says!"

Whew! I didn't know what to think until Brittany finally got the bubblegum out of her mouth and weighed in!

The first amendment only guaruntees the right to speak. Some believe it also grants the right to be heard.
