So..... a month ago I bought an engine for my Checkmate, and attached to the engine was a free bass boat and trailer. My initial plan was to sell whatever I could out of the boat that was worth anything, sell the trailer, and scrap the boat.

Well, I got to looking at the boat (it's a 1993 Vision - which I've never heard of) and started feeling sorry for it. I decided that it could make a pretty decent bass boat if repaired. "ALL" it needs is a transom, stringers, deck, floatation foam, carpet, and some cosmetic work on the passenger console. I also have this silly notion that I'll get my son to pitch in on the repairs and he can learn how enjoyable it is to bring something back to life that was destined for the county dump. This will be my 3rd complete rebuild, so maybe I'm finally getting good enough at this that we can be fishing by this fall.

Damn, am I a sucker or what?

It is an addiction!

Yep.... There's just something indescribable about what happens when you mix sweat and fiberglass dust.

I started the teardown tonight, and couldn't help but think about the new tools I'm going to "need". And of course I can justify the expense - "but dear, it'll be worth way more $$$ than we have invested in it once I finish". (Shhhhh...... don't tell on me).

Lightening may strike you if you tell that fib.

If you need help preventing further episodes of boat salvation delusion...I can post videos of me sending perfectly good "restoration worthy" boats to the crusher at my local landfill. Watching a Cat 988 front end loader tossing a 21 foot bowrider around like a toddler is great fun. Makes you get over any sentimental feelings for fiberglass very quickly. The operators enjoy it too!
