My son left last Friday for Destin, FL for spring break. From lack of him checking in with us we figure all is well. No news is good news. His mamma is still sorta torqed outta shape with him on that one.

ANYWAY......he came home last night a day early cause all the kids he's been down there with ran out of money and he said he wasn't about to loan them money to stay.

Would yall like to know what he came home with?????

A #&^%~*#^%@%$ing tattoo ! !

Re: The Dadburn Youngun ! ! !

I put a tattoo on myself when I was about 13' (and it's ugly)
I tried to hide it from my parents, but when they spotted it,
my father took me outside, he got a piece of sandpaper and tried to sand it off my arm,
BUT! he stopped when I said " but dad I was just trying to be like you" :'(
he had tattoos that he got while in the military

Re: The Dadburn Youngun ! ! !

Ive got no tattoos and no extra holes in my body where there shouldn't be any.

I dont know what he paid for it and dont want to know but I told him when he got tired of it he could pay for having it burned off which is basically what they do to remove them.

Every time you walk by, slap him on the new tatoo. I've heard they are painful for a while.

Only one of my three have done that so far, (she is a very attractive 21 year old, [blonde of course]), and I bet she will regret it some day. JR ps fortunately it is in a place that is easy to cover when she gets older.

I hope it says something nice. Many kids are running around with nonsensical Chinese characters permanently etched in their skin. Things like "savage cabbage"

Could be worse--piercings anyone?

PS Thank God we never did any thing crazy, eh, EF?

Re: The Dadburn Youngun ! ! !

His tattoo is the initials KRH with some sort of squiggly design on both sides. KRH are his little sister that we lost back in 98 initials. I guess I can say his heart is in the right place.

On the piercings......i told him to take a good look at his mamma's ear lobes. She's got two on each side from ear rings being torn out. I told him if he wanted a piercing to look like that to just come on home with one and he'd see first hand what it felt like and looked like !

Don't sweat the piercings. At least when you remove them the hole heals up and all is well.

I'm not much for tattoos either, but getting one in remembrance of his little sister shows some pretty good heart imho.

Sorry, EF, but I gotta side with the boy. He didn't do anything to you or Mrs. EF, he did it to himself.

Yes I agree that he will really regret it someday, but who among us never did anything dumb when we were adolescents?

You didn't say how old he is but I guess if you let him go on spring break he must be old enough to join the Services (17-18 ), so.. . . .

Sorry to say it, but your time for controlling him is long passed.

Re: The Dadburn Youngun ! ! !

Ken, JB, I have a ton of respect for you guys and yalls wisdom and oppinions....dont get me wrong, I'm not down on folks with tattoos. I'm down on my youngun for the thing. The way i see it...he's my youngun, he still lives at home, I'm still paying his bills, putting him through college, he pulls his big 215 lb. butt under my table, eats the groceries I provide, rides in the vehicle I provided for him, burns the gas I put in it, wears the clothes I provide...etc,etc,etc. I stood there held my wifes hand, was bitten, cussed, punched, puked on and all sorts of things while she was pushing him out. Just like every man in here that has kids. Until he moves out and supports himself, the hide that covers his body still pretty much belongs to me. I/we, my wife and I, believe I/we have the right to have a say in what he does to it and puts on it.

I'm off my soap box now.

Thats the Golden Rule at is finest............He with the gold makes the rules. Can't argue the house rules as long as your living there for free. BTW EF same rules I grew up by, looking back they worked pretty well.

Re: The Dadburn Youngun ! ! !

You position is respectable, EF, but legally and psychologically he is a man and responsible for the consequences of his own decisions.

Having a bit of disagreement with my son over his 18 year old wanting to do one thing and Dad wanting him . . .no, ordering him. . . to do something he doesn't want to do. There is risk there of creating an unwarranted estrangement. That is not worth it.

Supporting him does not extend your status as legal guardian. I suppose it is a fair argument that you are buying his obedience, but is that what you want to do? I doubt it. I really doubt that you forbade him to get a tattoo.

It is done. Let it go. It is not un-doable and it is not worth creating bad family feelings. That is something YOU would regret for the rest of your life.
