Re: The day has come...

Hey Gary, Bob was right on with the recovery. My brother didn't listen and paid the price with a second surgery. God bless with the recovery.:)

I better not wake up feeling all greasy down there!
Social controversy . . . :p

Good luck. Probably on the table now, face down  Sorry, just can't help it.

Just look at it this way. Who wants to see Jimmie Johnson sweep anyway?

Thanks for all the prayers and words of support!
Surgery went well,Discectomy on the L4 L5.The doc said it went very well.
I don't even remember being pushed down the hall to the OR.
I just got home this evening.I was the first surgery of the morning.
Great i got to come home today!
They got me on some good meds for the next few days.
When i woke up the nurse asked if i knew where i was,i said yep,i'm fishing...lol
I don't remember that either.
Now i got to stay home and take it easy,no driving or anything for a week or so.
Thanks to all of my Iboats friends!

Re: The day has come...

Thanks FnG,TD and Art!
I'm up and walking better this morning...good sign.

FnG,I did 2 months of the therapy and will have to do more in a couple weeks.
They put me thru the ringer but i think it did help a little.Depending on what kind of surgery they are talking about,If they want to do a disc fusion try to avoid that....long recovery. They did the discectomy on me.They said i may end up doing the fusion down the road.I hope not.

TD,I have plenty of projects to do this winter.Still need to put the kits in my carbs on the ChrisCraft.Do some paint work on the lower.Re-organize my building and tools thrown every where...lol
Pour a concrete pad for the camper and put up one of those Costco canopys..The list goes on...;)

Thanks for the prayers Art,everyones support really helped me stay positive about all of this. Its nice to have such a broad range of friends around the US...You guys are great!:D

Re: The day has come...

Welcome to the club. I've had one disk removed and my girlfriend has had 2 removed but she got in a car wreck and hers collapsed so now there is nothing they can do for her. Any thing past about 20 feet and she has to use a walker. You will be limited for the rest of your life but it is not the end of the world. You just have to figure different ways to do stuff and stay away from driveing forklifts. I was doing that and haveing to drive backwards all the time. It put a side ways crook in my back and blew out the disk above the one they removed. The VA said I needed another operation with a 20% chance of success/80% I'll never walk again. Told them to get lost, and hurt like hell for about a year but did get better. Now I'm not doing to bad, just have to be xtra carefull....ANIMAL :D

Re: The day has come...

Thanks Animal!
I think my driving trucks for 25 years didn't help any.I doubt i'll be able to drive long distance for work any more.I hope when i'm healed they will offer me a position where i'm home every night,I doubt they will.
My doctor said i may never be 100% again.
For now i'll sit home and let them pay me until they figure out what to do with me.I was hurt on the job unloading fully assembled engines with no help.
It took them over a month to send me to a doc.I had already went to my family doctor,he x-rayed me and took me out of work.
After 2 months and i have used all my sick time and vacation i finally had to get a lawyer to get anything done.At least now i'm getting a weekly check.
Guess i'll have to see how it plays out.

Re: The day has come...

Hurt mine on the job also. Was driveing for North American Van Lines bed bugging. Had an up-right piano fall about 4 feet on top of me. What realy sucked was when it came time for the final settelment they gave me over $100,000 then made me pay all the medical, back pay and scripts back so when they got through with me I got a little over $15,000. I thought thats what they had the workers comp for, to cover all that stuff. Still don't know if it was susposed to go that way or if my lawer screwed me....ANIMAL :D P.S. They never let me back in a truck again.

Re: The day has come...

Oh ya, as far as I know its federal law that they have to offer you another position if you can no longer do the work you did. Even if they know you won't take it. If I had known that when mine happened. NAVL called me back trying to sell me another truck untill they found out what happened. Then they said I couldn't handle the fraight and hung up. I could have sued them so bad if I had known that tid-bit back then.....ANIMAL :D
