Yeah, you drive your car a lot more often than most people use an outboard. If you use the outboard every day, then no don't bother shutting off the fuel and running the engine until it stops.

I have always done it, but I only operate portable outboards with a single carburator, which is removed from the boat at each use.

When I first saw this thread there were no replies. I wanted to post that little popcorn guy. The next time I saw it there were 28 posts and I thought, "No point in putting the popcorn guy in now!" Now there are 43 replies and I can't figure out how to get the popcorn guy. Haha

I read all the replies and once again, each person is going to do what they think is best for their situation. We all can post our replies with our convincing evidence that satisfies each of us, but everybody will end up doing what they think is best after all the smoke clears (that's from that old 2-cycle oil by the way). I know I read every post on my threads with great ideas and some not so great. But I then make my choice from my point of view and move on. It is just how we all do such things. And for the most part, it doesn't make one way the better or worst, just different! JMHO

​This subject and a few others show that while there may be some differences in methods, and sometimes extreme differences, the end result isn't that different, the vast majority of people report having very few to no issues using their desired method. So without actual lab testing, and from what everyone is reporting, the conclusion is it doesn't make much of a difference in what you do or don't do, most likely you aren't going to have any problems.....that is until you do, but that can be explained away.
