Re: The Drugs Made Me Do It!

I had a BIL that had Crones disease. (May he rest in peace at the age of 38). He was on many drugs and was out of his mind. In a two week period, he shoplifted numerous stores. He got busted 4 times within that time. He stole bigger things like air compressors, trolling motors, batteries, and much more.

The doc made a statement that his meds were causing his problem of shoplifting. All the charges were dropped shortly after the doc's statement.

Then I heard a conflicting story that the police dropped the charges because of the extensive medical assistance that he required. The county did not want the extra expense of having to deal with his medical needs. Two years after this incident, he passed away in a bathroom at the hospital that he was seeking help.

Drugs will make a person do things that they normally wouldn't do..alcohol does this too!

Is this his first offense ? Then how about we put him in a mental hospital for the same amount of time someone would be sentenced to for this type of crime ? I don't care if he needed the money or not, I also don't care what career he used to have, he did a crime.....if it is due to mental difficulties, he belongs in a mental hospital, otherwise, he belongs in jail.

Am interested in knowing his currant financial status. That would defiantly shed additional light on the matter. If drug induced dilutions (sp) were in fact the cause, just because the drugs were legal and prescribed does that some how relieve the person of any responsibility?

Yes J, as weird as it sounds, it COULD happen. Not saying it did happen that way because only one person knows for sure whether he did it intentionally.

I am sure that the nurses know there is no danger considering the source of the patter. ;) Be careful though, soon you will be regarded as dirty old man. :D

His lawyer said yesterday that there are no financial issues.

I also thought I heard he was suffering from depression as a result of his son's death?

Prescription drugs prescribed by a physician can have a bad effect......When all of the facts in this case are examined, hopefully level headedness will prevail....And he will get the help he needs....JK

I know this sounds like an Oxymoron but what he needs is a good attorney. Innocence is still presumptive in the USA though it may be outmoted on the dock. Honest people still do stupid things when under the influence of drugs. Unethical people still use the law to advance their own agenda.

That is correct, Kagee.. His son died of a drug overdose..

Reardon was taking anti-depressants, and he was also taking meds because he had an angioplasty (sp?) about a week before...

Well, I guess that would be a question of ethics not a question of guilt or innocence. Pretty evident where your ethics lie.
