I had to post this, very neat article from 1967.
It's a review from Popular Mechanics after test-driving the '68 16' SS-V.
The very minor, straw-grasping critical points made by the author are exactly my feelings having enjoyed using my '79 SS 16 all summer. The shift handle on my Mercontrol is too close to the windshield strut, I've thought to myself many times as I scrape my hand on the metal.
I also agree with the advantages, light hull, great turning performance and quick planing with smaller HP than heavier boats.
The basic hull design hasn't changed much, and for good reason, if it ain't broke then don't fix it.
Best quote is: "To sum it up, this is a well-built, good-looking utility sport boat that combines big family cockpit space with the fun-to-drive feel of a high-speed runabout"
Here is the link to the article in google books.
