Most will know I’m a big fan of the laser 2 for its all round performance by now...
just managed to totally dial in a friends boat perfectly there with the laser.

He has a mariah sx18 with a 3.0 and alpha drive.
Has a standard black max 21” ally prop in probably about 80% condition.
Was running at about 4900 rpm trimmed out and about 37 gps.
Changed to a mint bargain laser 2 21”. Now seeing 4750 on the nose and 43 mph gps with fair bit of fuel on board.

What a prop these are. Just plain good all round.

Expect the same results from the black max. Comparing a beat up prop to a new one isn't exactly scientific.

Fair comment, but as good as a black max is for an ally prop...it can’t come close to the laser. Tried this out on at least 5 different boats now every time better all round performance over same pitch ally. Even out the box new ally.

I ran the Laser back when there was no 2 in the nomenclature with a 115 Merc Tower on a Ranger pad boat. Dazzling. I ran it trimmed out as far as it would go before it started blowing out (speed dropping off and rpms coming up) and by the tach I was running 6k boating alone as I usually did. It had the round, smaller port back then but worked sweet just the same. When on the pad at 6k I could hear the engine singing and the prop blades hitting the water making a humming sound.....really enjoyed that "fishing" boat.

I would punch it out and as I was coming up on plane.....ports porting and rpms up, I'd trim it out and wasn't long till the ports closed off, the boat actually lurched, the rpms dropped and away I went. Max on that rig was 55 instrument and it started chine walking.....was my initial run after the purchase but the prop came with the boat....I cut the trip short once I made the run and returned it for I think it was a 24P and I traded for a 21 which was right for the way I boated.

Brilliant stuff.
