ALL new technology scares me. It needs a "history" to establish and prove longevity/reliability.

That said, in a few years, if it's true,...
I GODDA GET ONE!

This motor has me very impressed. I think Bombardier based this off the FICHT design. I heard their main reason for buying OMC was for FICHT? Anyway I think we are on the verge of entering the golden age of outboards LOL! The manufactures are really turning up the heat. I really enjoy watching this unfold. :D

Re: The new Evinrude E-TEC

Just want to confirm what Trent posted is true. The final corporate policy on the "no maintenance" issue is still in the works. Any outboard needs additional care in saltwater, props need to be removed and greased, and shafts checked for fishline around the seals. The battery and boat do need regular maintenance and winterizing.

The nice thing about these motors is that you do not have to pull the hood and check the oil level like in a 4-stroke (very awkward on some pontoon boats) and there is no additional costs for oil changes or expensive oil filters.

Yes, thats all great,, but does anyone know anything about the direct bearing oiling system???

Another thing I like about this, (and to a degree all 2 strokes) is that about 90% of engine wear happens in the first 20 seconds after starting..

in 4strokes there is no oil in the bearings etc until the pump has put it there.. till then its metal on metal.. and thats what causes most wear.

2 strokes never really had that problem since the oil is delivered with the fuel..

maybe the E-tec has the best of both worlds.

regards

Franki

I called the dealers here, and they don't have anything on pricing. Anyone know?

Franki i imagine the bearings are still 2-sroke type roller/needle bearing. So that want be a problem,if anything they will last much longer which would be the reson behind the change. waynebo
