So are we talking health issues here or boat issues
Either? Both? As long as you didn't mean vent(ilation) of the prop...or the poopreller..........

You just know it's a matter of time before someone comes in and is totally apoplectic.................

When can I expect a full refund for my Spring 2014 membership dues? :watermelon:

Oops, I thought you meant apologetic..............

You really did mean apoplectic........ had to look it up

I'd be happy to contribute $ to this site as I do with other boards that are valued, especially if it would help repair this mess.

Repeat: vBulletin is ubiquitous throughout the enthusiast forum world, and rarely has these kinds of massive problems, let alone over this duration of time.

Whatever or whomever created this mess should be a bit more contrite, not the loyal board members who are still trying to stick with this community.

I have nothing to vent . . . the situation is well known by now. However, I still seem to be able to post a similar amount as was the case with the old site. so, it is all good in that regard.

I just wonder if iBoats is alone in the misery of the vBulletin upgrade, or have other forums who have upgraded met the same fate :noidea:

Other places I frequent that have vBulletin . . .

THT - I believe they are on version 3

OSO, I believe they are on version 4

So, I would assume that iBoats is running version 5 ?
A couple of weeks ago I googled "vBulletin 5 problems" and from that I would say what we're seeing is pretty standard for the VB 5 upgrade. Probably worse here because this is a much larger forum than most.

Sphelps, I would have to say, something in your browser is causing your smiles to end up at the top of the post and not a function of the forum software, some browsers have their own formatting rules that can change a lot of things.

Well Ifn all it took was a simple google search to find real life issues with Vb5.........why in the H$*@ did it get upgraded? surely the i.t. people are smart enough to check for any known issues first.........But as I and several others said at the beginning of this cluster, there were server changes/upgrades/downgrades made also.

You know as a server and forum administrator myself, we always try to ensure the security and functionality of our systems for our users, we use software that is available for a reasonable costs to accommodate the maximum amount of people we can. It is always frustraiting to try and make everybody happy and after many years, I have come to the conclusion, it can't be done. One thing to note, every a multi billion dollar company had a mess happen with their system yesterday, Facebook just went down, they have over a billion users as well as some of the best IT people in the business and things still happened and they didn't even have a reason for why it happened. From day one of this upgrade, there has been major progress made and things ARE getting better. Things will again be like the majority want it, but man.....and really, this is a great resource as well as a place where many have become good friends, but if it does not work as you want, how bad is it really? Really answer that question for yourself, in the whole scope of things, this is nothing.

knowing what little I know, Im not going to vent much. I did google the Vbulletin 5 issues a while back. also not going to mention the termoil with the software since the transition from Jelsoft to Internet Brands.

change is inevitable, and the inter-web is here to stay. however with that comes the nefarious folk that make "security upgrades" an unfortunate requirement

if we could just "terminate with extreme prejudice" the hackers and spammers we wouldn't have to worry about security and most of the IT problems wouldn't be there

I would love to terminate the hackers, and I tell you what, if I ever catch one in person, I will be posting from prison! Jerks offs, if they would get a real job, they would make a fortune!

Edit: midcarolina, There are still some rules to follow in here! Anymore of that ^^^ cannot or will not be permitted. Please keep things clean in here. Thank you. iboats mod team

Rule #4. Attacks (bashing) on any person, organization, company or other entity will not be permitted. Reporting experiences with any vendor, website or organization must be limited to facts. Unqualified attacks will be considered bashing.

Brown nosing, what the F*** are your talking about, I have been doing this business, since I retired and am intrigued by the various things that happen, so just stop it and go with the flow, I support my wife's company who has over 500 websites online as of today, so I am deeply involved in this crap, so just get over it, or get lost, there are thousands of other websites to correspond on in the internet world!

I apologize for my last comment, it is just very frustrating to listen to so many that get so much and are not paying for the expert information they are getting from guys that have decades of experience, this is one of those situations, that your time investment is being rewarded by those with the information. I know the IT guys are working hard and I also know the VB people are not easy to work with. just give it time, it will get back to 100% soon.

If it ain't broke ?? Must not be reading the same info I am. I clearly understand that it was soon to break if it wasn't already broken. Why is maintaining & improving the security of the host servers & systems so hard to understand? Isn't the forum a byproduct of the retail online presence? So if some jerk hacks the system via a weak link in the previous software version, and torpedoes the iboats retail division, won't that effect the forum negatively too? As 'merely' a member I am invested here, but i am still willing to do what ever it takes to weather the storm caused by protecting the host.

and there is the difference.....
iBoats forum is a byproduct of iBoats
other vB forums are not hosted as such, and are supported by advertizements, etc.

however security is a real issue. information is mined. no body cares if someone hacks a post - it is annoying, however not many people give it a second thought. however everyone screams bloody murder if their information is hacked, and data is stolen/sold.

In the various vBulletin forums and info on the web, I keep seeing the term "vBulletin 5 Connect" and well as "vBulletin 5" . . . I am wondering if these are 2 different products . . . or one and the same . . .? What specifically is iBoats using ????

There was a lot of stink on the web about "vBulletin 5" about 2 years ago when it was first released. One would think/hope that in almost 2 years the dust would have settled :noidea:

[START-VENTING] There are other sites running vB5 . . we are by no means the first . . . so I am still wondering what really happened with the iBoats upgrade ???

Also, I see other sites running the older versions of vBulletin with seemingly few, if any, security issues :noidea:

Anyway, those are my questions of the day . . . [/END-VENTING]
