the perfect motor?

I just bought a 25hp Mercury outboard that has BOTH manual pull start AND electric start. The pull cord is right on top of the motor like it should be and the electric start switch is on the tiller. The electric start was not a dealer add on, it came from the factory that way.

In the 2003 Merc catalog, they list only Manual OR electric start motors. I called Merc about this and they said they make a few motors that have both, but don't show them in their catalog.

This would seem to be the perfect combination. If your battery goes dead you have the pull manual start as a backup.

Did I stumble on a rarity or am I missing something here?

My guess is that it is a cost saving measure. Both in the engine and the catalog. It is probably a low volume selling item. Years ago many motors came this way.

I think this is an outboard engine post.

I am moving it there.

Sounds like you got a nice package, Skiffer. I wouldn't buy a small electric start outboard that didn't have recoil as a backup.
