The President's furnitures

Disclaimer: I am not looking to start up anything political. Just an inquisitive mind wanting to know.

I was listening to Bob&Tom this morning and somehow they started to talk about how when the first family moved into the White House all of their furnitures, belonging, etc.. would have already been there and set up accordingly. They also talked about how each President decorated the place to their preferrences. I started to wonder if they had to paid for the new furnitures, etc.. Does anyone know if the first family have to pay for anything during their time at the white house?

Being North of the border, I can give an opinion "from the outside looking in" in more than one way. All U.S. presidents, good and bad, seem to age greatly over their term. Their entire family are uprouted and have to get accustomed to being under constant scrutiny and surrrounded by security. There are few days off and work is a minimium of 16 hours a day. Anything supplied while in the Whitehouse is paid for many times over.

Who is bob and tom? Do they have an agenda to be negative about our current political leader? If so anything they talk about is bias and therefore refering to them makes it polictical in my opinion. Tell me why Im not correct.

Bob and Tom are radio comedians, some of the stuff they talk about is political but end up cracking jokes about it. I never heard them taking any political side. Mostly talk about strange things and joking about it.

I believe they get a set amount that they are allowed to use for furnishings and renovations. I believe I heard somewhere around 100,000 at one time when Obama was moving in. I'm sure most of the stuff is paid for, but what they do, I don't believe they get paid a whole lot. I know when I was in school which has been 10 years or so I remember hearing that the president made 400,000 a year. The most powerful person in the world makes less then most professional athletes. Plus, the fact that they can't go out in public for a lot of things like going to the gym which is why Obama had a basketball court put in the white house.

I would imagine the furnishings are paid for out of tax dollars, as I believe so is the x-mas trees and other such seasonal decorations.

My understanding is that most of the residential furnishings are chosen by the "new family." Anything that's commissioned by the current family belongs to that family. If the next family removes the item(s), it can go back to the original family (unlikely), or stay in the White House storage areas. If the item(s) are in storage, any new President can have it re-installed, or re-used, like dishes etc. Other than that, the entire facility is the property of the people of the United States.

Personally, I prefer Tom & Jerry. The Three Stooges will do pretty well, too. The first two don't get furniture, because they are cartoon characters, and the Three Stooges are all dead, so who cares what they get?

Members of congress have a budget also and remodel at will on their way in usually. There are warehouses full of "old" furniture around DC, I read about this way back in the 80's, very wasteful practices in this regard.
