Reported in the "Melbourne Herald Sun" April 7th, 2004. Not stupid, but other forums not appropriate.

Cape York is the very northern tip of Australia.
A 3 metre croc is small on average.

" When a 3m croc latched on to the arm of an 11 year old girl swimming behind his boat, skipper Ray Turner leapt into action.

The former croc hunter dived from the boat, landed on the back of the croc, and gouged its eyes until it freed the girl.

Hannah Thompson was swimming with friends yesterday at Margerat bay, Cape York, when the croc attacked.

Mr. Turner heard screams and a shout of 'crocodile'. 'I was pitching myself of the boat and could see the black shadow in the water, I landed right on top of him', the 57 year old said. 'I got a finger in his left eye - I missed the right eye, he got a fright and let go, they always let go when you go for the eyes because its their venerable point and their livelihood'.

Hannah was flown to hospital in a stable condition, she joked about losing her watch, 'the alarm is set for 5pm - if you want to go after that croc'.

Pretty clever for an 11-yr old. I'm just glad to see that crocs practice catch and release.
