Hi zm008,

Just wanted to come aboard and admire your nice rig, watch, learn, and see it splashed...

I really like the original Mercruiser dash and the Oven knob is a definite classic speed controller...:D

Best of luck and have fun,
GT1M

Re: The restoration of my first boat begins...1966 Starcraft Holiday

I am going to have to replace the aluminum on my bow due to way to many holes by the previous owners. I am thinking of either using the same thickness (0.63) or going with a (0.25) and just placing it over the existing piece. I think since the (0.25) is so thin it will bend easily and I will probable use some type of epoxy to adhere it to the existing piece of aluminum. Pros-Cons anyone? This is the first thing i will have to do before I move forward with my project.

Some of the guys here have fixed holes in tinnies that look like they were used for shotgun targets. The only pic of the foredeck is through the windshield in your dash pic. It doesn't look all that bad. Do you have a pic of the bow?

I was just thinking the same exact thing. Rivets and/or JB Weld along with a coat of paint will make that bow look brand new. Less money, less work, great results. Unless you have some sort of structural damage I'd seriously consider just rehabbing what ya have there.

Shoot up a photo so we can check it out:)

They handle waves awesome and FLY!!! Do you have the 4.3 in it? Ours had higher sides and Lake Michigan was no problem. I grew up on a 22' center console which I just bought and then when my dad bought the holiday I turned 16 and it was my ticket to freedom. That boat was SO ugly but it could catch fish.

Re: The restoration of my first boat begins...1966 Starcraft Holiday

Status update. Floors are epoxied, inside almost completely sanded, ideally it will be primed today and gunnels will be painted black truck lining most likely because I predict alot of stuff will bedropped in and out of them. Gauges, engine control, horn, fuse block and more have been ordered. Found some awesome seats, steering wheel and other items also. I haveto order carpet soon and start on my gunnels as well. The current plan is still plywood painted, trimed and stripped in teak. The carpet will have snaps so after a day or so on the water I will be able to remove the carpet making sure no moisture will be held.

Anyone familiar with the original style dash that was put in these things? I would like to have it cut out this week and unless I find out other wise I will be tracing the old oneov, however if the existing one isn't close to original style I will modify it. BTW dash will be a slid piece of teak.

Progress BUMP!!
This thing is going ALOT slower than I was hoping. Floors cut-out and epoxied, gunnels finally repaired. Vinyl is the final choice for covering the gunnels. Most of my parts on hand, I have the bow cover and transom cover along with the side "rails" stripped clean. I was about to strip the boat but calculated the cost of me doing it versus someone else so she is at the shop being blasted.

I ran into a HUGE problem! my motor sucks. it was smoking like a mother when I took it out for the first and last time in the fall. So im going to try and replace it. Will post pics but it is a crappy little four cylinder at the moment. My question is what will be a good replacement? I was told today that the older inline 6's have problems who better to ask than you guys? I was informed to get a newer four cylinder 82-83 up along with an outboard to match..or a newer 6 but I read somewhere that the transom on these old boats wernt rated for more than 140ish? Any truth to that? You all know I appreciate the help!
