Good likely hood of damaging the motor if you continue to run it like this. You don't say what motor it is. If careful you can change the seal without pulling the power head. How ever this may be a sign the top main bearing is going down and you need to check it also.

most likly caused by a gummed or plug top carb. the blown seal is most likly a symptom of the sneeze not the cause. fix the fuel system. that sneeze is actually a backfire. keep back firing it and you will see the crankshaft through the hole in the block. each backfire washes the lube from the already lean cyl.

Re: The Sneez exposed

it is a 40 hp yamaha 1991 mdl. # plrp

i dont know what else to do.

I completely rebuilt the carbs. New o-rings,needle valve seat's

when i say rebuilt i mean soaking each carb seperately for 30 minutes completely disassembled jets valve seats and after i put 80# of pressure through every hole i could find.

the only thing i did not install new are the floats because i did not have a guage to set them.

i also decarbed the motor a week or 2 ago.
When i pulled the spak plugs they didnt look like it was running lean at all. They were actually darker than usual.

I also synced the carbs and readjusted my throttle linkage

And my climber manual says to set my piolets at 1 and 1/8 turns out which i have done.

so if i am forgetting to check something that i am overlooking please let me know.

replace the seal. if it was blown when the crabs were gummy it could be the source of an air leak. but usually its something in the idle circuits of the carbs.

Re: The Sneez exposed

well i just returned from running the motor and trying to put together the sneeze and symptons you said i was having with the lean mixture.

When i first start the motor it revs high i beleave this is from a sensor for the choke or something when the motor is first started. then after about 30 seconds it goes down to regular idle.

While idleing and sneezing i put my fingers light ly to restrict the air flow into the carb and the sneezing stops. Would this mean that the cylinder is using the air from the seal or am i over evaulating this?

should i try to clean the #1 carb agian ?

And if it is blowing out the seal have i already damaged it? and needs to be replaced deffinitly now?
the sneezing started after i replaced my stator bracket and gasket that i broke.

Re: The Sneez exposed

hello
I would definately have another look at the top carb and double check all idle circuits and transfer passages.
