Been trying to set my boat up for winter fishing on the big lake. Have a good top and windows, but the back was completely open.

Had a canvas person quote me a proper drop for my top but at $800, it was not going to happen (I figure the guy had too much work and didn't want to do it).

So I'm into making on myself.

Remember, this is a fishing boat so it does not have to be pretty or perfect, just needs to keep the wind out.

Tried to find heavy plastic at Home Depot, Rona etc. but it's all too thin for what I'm thinking of doing.

Go to the plastic shop and ask for something there. He shows me some vinyl that I think would be perfect, but it's not wide enough so I'd need two pieces and, 6 feet long at $6 a foot, so $80 or so. Better but still more than this thing should cost me.

So, I'm sitting on the toilet.

Staring at the tub.

And the perfectly clear, vinyl shower curtain.

Perfect width. A bit long for what I'm doing but under $10.

Go buy a new one.

Some work with old frame pieces I had, shower curtain hooks we had already, and a couple of stick on zippers for tarps and voila.

I'm going to lose the shower hooks and attach it to the bar directly. Then I just remove the bar for the summer time. It also needs some weight at the bottom to keep it flying around when the zippers are open, but it works great.

Ayuh,....

That's probably the goin' rate,.... Upholstery is Ungodly Expensive....

When I got around to putting curtains, windows,+ doorflaps on the semi-rigid bimini I built,.....
I figured I'd get a Steal of a Deal, because I was,+ still am involved with the Upholsterer's little sister,+ I bought ALL of the materials...
Surprize,..!!..
A few weeks later, I found a Beautiful job of turning most of My design into reality...
The few things that weren't to My design were changed at no extra costs, But..
It was still $1,000.00.... A Thousand Bucks.....

Since then, I've come accross a walking-foot sewing machine,+ My Love can sew together whatever I put in front of her,.... As long as I've done all the design,+ lay-out,....
Upholstery has gotten Alot cheaper for Me...

Btw,.....
I Love your Idea......

That's a great idea, and whenever it does decide to go, it's a cheap replacement item! I'll have to keep this in mind when I make my bimini top for my boat.

ya know tackel..........since that is an ob.....and the fuel tank is seperate....AND you could run the shower curtain as to completely seperate the area from any fumes..........a heater just might be in order !

you could have a year round boat there !

the only thing to think about is the cold cracking temp of a shower curtain....i dont think minus 5 or even minus 10 would pose too much of a problem....

great idea tackel....

Page 213 of the Princess catalog. $75 for a single tank top heater that sits on a 20lb tank. 3 settings of 8, 12, and 14,000 BTU's. Tank can sit in a milk crate to keep from falling over and can sit up front between the consoles. The top is nowhere near leak free enough that I need to worry about venting. Buddy has the same setup in his Thunderjet he uses for guiding.

Just wanting it to come on sale.

Re: The things I think of on the toilet

Hey Tacklewasher,

Great tip! It's funny the way we overlook stuff... Years ago I had to connect my chop saw to my shop vac... Naturally, the diameter of the two didn't match, and the adapter was $20. So one night I was standing in the kitchen trying to think of what to eat, and there before me lay one of those kitchen vacuum bag food storage gadgets. Hmmm... The plastic bag material looked plenty tough. So I made an 8" bag and then cut the bottom off. That turned it into a heavy duty flexible sleeve. I then put that on the vac hose, rammed the hose and sleeve over the sawdust output of the chop saw, and secured both ends with a couple of spare bungees. Perfect! I use that stupid plastic bag sleeve for all my tools/vac now. And it's been 5 years... Someday it will wear out, and I'll spend another dime and 15 seconds making another... As for the $20 adapter? Naw!
