I'm in a bad spot right now, fellas'. It's the end of summer and I'll be winterizing the Sea Ray real soon. I spent all of spring and part of summer restoring her, and she looks amazing and worked like new. Now, I'm torn about selling her; I got a bit attached, you know?
Anyway, so I'm thinking of starting on a new winter project and I got a guy not far from here who will sell me a mid 80's Wellcraft Nova 26XL hull for $500. Should I take it?!!
It's a bare hull with some of the brightwork, all the wiring, and all the windshields, but litteraly nothing else. Bare. There's no damage of any kind to the hull except that it will need a thorough sanding and repaint because of weathering. She had twin BB and through-hull exhausts so there are lots of large holes in the transom to fill.
I like it because it's a blank canvas I can set up which ever way I want, but in the end, wouldn't it be wiser to spend a bit more cash and buy a rough but running version of the same boat? Am I going a bit overboard with this?

lets see the ray....:D

my only concern it the empty spaces on the scarab......what ya gonna put in the holes?.......thats 12k a peice for the holes.

why buy a boat with no motors and drives unless you got a set of twins in the garage?

better off with a working motor and drive....than a hull with no power

cheers

Ya, I know what you mean. I was thinking of filling in the holes and going with single BB, but I think for this particular hull, it's going to be too much of a h*****le. Maybe a nice 21ft Nova with a single SB...
I'd love to post a pic of the Sr, but pics are too big. I can't figure out how to shrink them...!.

upload the pics to photobucket........then hit resize....640x 480.....then copy the img tag....and just post it......

if you have the full resto pics.......the mods may put it in the compleated projects forum....so that other guys can use it as a tutorial

In todays failing economic market and high gas prices there ought to be a lot of good deals out there. Especially ones with motors attached! Good luck, Ron
