There hasn?t been any recognition given to the one other thing that we love more than BOATS?..........................OUR WOMEN! I came up with an idea to recognize all the hard work and bs our ladies put up with that comes with owning a boat, fixing a boat, and restoring a boat. Not one of us has completed one ?boating upgrade? or ?boat restoration? without these ladies support or ?approval?. Everything from putting up with the fiberglass filled laundry, to cooking a good meal for all your buddies who would come over to help, THE WOMEN OF IBOATS are apart of every project on here. They feed us, clean up after us, and in some cases get down and dirty working side by side! Regardless of how in depth your boating lifestyle is? I promise when the weekend comes?..your lady has made a meal for you to take out and enjoy on the water?..all these little things go over looked here on Iboats; and for a place with a forum on just about everything boating, no one has a thread on the one person who ?allows you to have a boat?!

So here is a dedicated thread to all the women of Iboats?

Were makin this about them!

1. Photo of your lady working (or just a photo of her and the boat)
2. The project you worked on/or working on/or boat you guys use
3. How she helps you the most
4. Her Favorite thing about boating
5. Whatever else you wanna share!

THIS IS JULIE................

2. The project you worked on/or working on/or boat you guys use :

She started out as my Girlfriend, at the time, together, we restored a 1978 Wellcraft CC. After that I knew she was a keeper, so we then bought a 30? 1985 Scarab Sport and restored that. (after that I knew I wanted to marry this girl), now we enjoy taking our Iboat restored vessel around the Great Lakes (only 3 more to concur!!)

3. How she helps you the most:

Well When restoring the boats, she always wanted to get in and learn about it all, after work was done she was an ?organizer? (loves to have everything organized and clean), and of course when my buddies would come over to help, shed be there to make everyone a SWEET meal!
4. Her Favorite thing about boating:

Laying out on the boat getting all the attention??

#5. -- the coolest thing ever, after we rebuilt this 30 foot boat, 9 months of HARD DIRTY WORK,more money than we ever thought possible, wondering what it even looked like it the water, we plopped it in the water for the first time hopping it would float. Well my little lady stood right up on a cold May night and too ahold of the controls and piloted the thing....no windshield...first time ever in the water...at night....knowing i was going to freak out if she hit anything......needless to say.....she's got guts!.....and thats why i love her! ;-)

My wifes biggest job on the boat is keeping the little ones happy while we are out on the boat...sometimes i think it is not as much fun for her as it is for the rest of us but she handles it pretty well.

She does get to have some fun catching fish on her own though:

She even gets to help the little ones real in the big ones.

She does occasionally get some time by herself:

It was actually her idea to buy the boat instead of a sports car. Been married to her for 33 years. We tolerate each other that's for sure.

Here she is taking the boat out:

Here she is going by the dock:

And here she is bringing the boat in:

I resized all my pictures. They should now be below the limit.

Re: The women of iboats!!

there used to be a few women who posted here frequently. Haven't heard from them in a while.
I don't know that they would buy into the "woman fixes the dinner after I go boating" role. But I think it's realistic that in most cases, the men of the family handle most of the mechanical and physical chores (as it is with me); you just have to be ready for plenty of exceptions and never have the attitude that one gender is better at something than the other, just because the work is divided.
And women frequently outfish the men--often in the same boat with identical baits, rigs, etc. Must be the pheramones.
A lot depends on who grew up boating--my sister and I did and our respective spouses didn't, so each of us is the primary operator. But we both only have daughters, and they can outboat any male newbie of any age you throw at them. I've watched them at 10 bail out men of 40 who didn't know what to do, when things went awry.
Around here we love them salty boat women!

It's hard to see her but that's my wife in the yellow and my girlfriend in the pink on my beat around fishing boat :D

EDIT: Sorry but if this thread is to have any chance of survival, let's keep it to our actual significant others (and yes that pic was too big)

(I had my buddy take this pic from my helicopter)

Is this pic too big?

Here's my lovely wife. She made it through 6 months of boat restoration without griping at me once. She even pitched in and helped quite a bit.

Here she is scraping off pinstriping

And here she is enjoying the fruits of our labors

And I gotta throw in one of my momma shredding on the slalom ski.

Mine is so special I am restoring an old Penn Yan 23' sportfish just for her. She loves the old boat named Baccala, which is an Italian slang and she has no idea what it means.;)

Re: The women of iboats!!

Great thread!

We are both in our sixties, married 39 years and late to boating, just got our Larson two years ago.

We are definitely fair weather boaters and often go out for a few hours and that will consist of 20 to 25 minutes to a sand bar area where we anchor swim and have a picnic lunch and then another 20 to 25 minutes.

Best boating this summer was Lake Charlevoix and Torch Lake thanks to suggestions from i-boats members.

Attached (hopefully) is a pic of Kathy catching some rays!

This is my hot rod Nordic Jet boat. I have been working on this for a few years now. It has a blown Big Block Chevy with custom EFI that I made many parts for. The Wife has been very supportive. We just got another boat that we can cruise, ski and tube off of. I should have that project ready for next year. She has helped me out in taking the floor out and other stuff.

My Wife and my Neice in our '73 Gulfstream at the Columbia Cup hydroplane races. We have since gifted this boat to my Neice and her husband, and will see this boat often.:)
