to fish then Cape Ann. Now that the commercial fishing has begun south of here, the 100 or so day boats are bringing in daily limits of 800 pounds per day. What this means, these same boats are discarding an average of 4,000 - 5,000 pounds per day per boat. The national marine fisheries rule is you are allowed the 800 pounds and you must throw the rest overboard. Where is the conservation.

On the brighter side the commercial, recreational and charter boat giant bluefin tuna is now open as of June 1st. The local harpoon boats are averageing 3 fish per day and receiving about 6 bucks a pound. Rod & reel fishing has been slow and does not pick up till mid July.

The striped bass fishery is in full swing. Some nice fish in the 30- 48 pound class are being caught. There are plenty of bait fish.
