Thermostat/Antifreeze question

I'd like to get antifreeze into my 4.3 alpha using the 5 gallon jug connected to the muffs method (non-toxic of course). After reading here, I will pull the drain plugs first to help reduce any possible dilution, then replace them and run with the antifreeze muffs. It seems to me this will guarantee circulation of the anti freeze everywhere (vs. the pulling hoses and filling them method advocated by some).

My only real concern is that the thermostat must be open for the antifreeze to reach everywhere. So at what temp will that occur? Should normal operating temp be adequate even if it's cold out?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Thermostat/Antifreeze question

It may never get warm enough to open the thermostat fully while running on the muffs.
Why don't you winterize it the correct way and be safe?
You are pulling the drain plugs anyway...
If you get the motor up to temp then drain the block and manifolds buy then the thermostat will be closed...
Get a manual and winterize it right...;)

Re: Thermostat/Antifreeze question

Running it temp gives a false sense of security. As soon as you drain it, or when the cold AF(if you didn't drain it) hits it, the thermostat will close.

If you are going to use AF, pull the t-stat.
