I went to replace the thermostat, along with the rubber cup and brass valve seat. The brass seat valve (part # 0320880) is frozen in place.

I know I should have just left the original in there, but I have already gotten myself in pretty deep, so that is no longer an option. See Photo:

After trying WD-40, needle nose, hammer + screwdriver on just the brass seat, I have managed to mangle the seat pretty badly, but still cannot get it out. I don't think I have affected the engine case portion to cause me worry, but if I go further, I fear I may do irreparable damage.

I was thinking of a MAP or propane torch, but worried about gas fumes and such.

Any suggestions on how to get this thing free so I can get my thermostat installed? I am at your mercy...

Thanks,

Chris

You need a puller with a hook on the end. Check your local parts house or Harbor Freight.

On harbor freight site, do a search on "pilot bearing puller", you will get two hits. I have the cheapo, I think the slide hammer one would work well. I have never has a situation that the cheapo would be suitable.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to get it out finally. I ended up using a cold center punch and some rust breaker stuff, but I think I may pick up something from Harbor Freight for the next time.
