How do I find out what thermostat I need for a 7.5 Johnson outboard. The model number is J8BAC55, serial number B0016539. Also can someone tell me how old it would be ? Thanks

I can't find that exact number, but it is somewhere around 1981-84 era. I don't think a thermostat would be hard to find. Probably the same as a whole bunch of similar motors.

Almost certainly SS not 55 making it J8BACSS

Therefore a 1980 model (CS =1980)

BA means it has an AC lighting coil. Made in Belgium I guess too

Are you in the UK ? If so Oakley Marine ( aka Outboards direct ) in Brighton and Wills Marine in Devon are good places for parts

See the BRP parts list http://epc.brp.com/Index.aspx?lang=E...8-f878bd076b33 for the part numbers. But you'll have to look at the parts for J8RCSS
You will probably need the cover gasket and the seal ring as well (#24 and #23)
convert

As suggested the same part was used for a huge number of models from 1968 to 1987, 5 hp upwards
