Thermostat IL6

bought a quicksilver thermostat-140 item # 59078. Tested against 2 agreeing (candy) thermometers. It did not begin to open til 160 degrees. Ran the test 3 times...a number of different ways: running the temp up to 143, down from 170 etc. All the same...160 before any action by the thermostat. Thermostat stamped "140". Is it possible they stuck the guts of a 160 in a 140 thermostat housing?

Could be a bad one out of the box. None of them are real accurate however. +/- 10 to 15 deg is not uncommon in my experience.

Would you put this in an application calling for a 143 ?

the stat starts to open at 140 and fully opens at ??? how does it compare to the old one <br /><br />if it really makes you nervous by a nother or try to exchange it<br /><br />tommays

I'm taking it back but it didn't even start to open till 160.

got new one...works perfect. Ist one must have been bad one in the box.

Looks like ya have to start checking everything before you install it, as off 15/20 is way out of line, especially in salt water
