Thermostat location and access on 75 horse Mariner

Where are the stats located on my 75 horse mariner and how do I check to see if they are working?

If its a 4 cylinder 75 it has no t-stat, if its the 3 cylinder its located to left of #1 spark plug under poppet cover. Proper testing requires removal and testing on a stove to see if it opens at the proper set point.
