On 1988 Mercruiser 5.7L I had to replace the thermostat, housing, and all accompanying components. The replacement unit has a plastic sleeve that I believe holds the thermostat in place, Some other info references a brass sleeve. Point is the top cover will not fit with the sleeve installed and I do not see how the thermostat is secured without something. I assume the stat fits up toward the top of this housing and not right in the intake like a standard car engine. Also the old unit had a rod through the top front outlet with a spring loaded ball check valve on each end. This "kit" did not come with this at all. What does this do and is it required? Pic of all parts included. Thanks
