thermostat permanently part of thermotstat housing ? chev 5.0 cobra

after pulling my thermostat housing i noticed it that the thermostat appears to be pressed permanently into the housing itself, with no way to remove it short of destroying it.
do i have to buy the entire housing just to replace a thermostat? ) ;

Look at the drawing. You'll notice that the thermostat is kept in place by an O-ring (Ref #52)

You have rust caked up around the inside of the housing making it appear the thermostat in part of the housing.
