i am putting a new thermostat into my 1990 90 hp force... when i took the cover off or the housing to the thermostat.... i took the old thermostat out, and tossed it away...left the spring in there.... well, when i got the new thermostat... i forgot the order of the thermostat should go back into the houseing.......is the spring the first thing to go into the housing and THEN the thermostat? or is it thermostat and then spring? newbie here, just changed my impeller and new head gasket....so i am sort of proud of my efforts, but i feel stupid that i can't remember the sequence of the thermostat and spring...

Re: thermostat question?

Thermostat goes into the block first followed by the spring, then the thermostat cover.

And, I think the pointed end goes in toward the block. I think there is not enough room for the pellet end to go in. If there is room and the pellet end will fit, that is the preferable way to install it.
