Thermostat Question

Hi All,

Really very good information in all replies that appear in this forum.

I have this problem.

1) I have a Evinrude 60hp 1989 3 cylinders with a thunder-craft 17

2) 2 year ago the engine overheated . Gasket
was burned and the middle piston smelt a little; therefore, Evirunde dealer redo all engine including carburetor and water pump

3) the summer after I had exactly the same problem. Gasket was burnt in the middle cylinder. I guarantee that the water pump was working well because the engine was peeing all the time. heat Alarm was broken. I went back to the Dealer and he change the gasket and install the alarm. He test the boat in the lake

4) Yesterday I connect the garden hose with muffs to test the engine for fist time after dealer reparation and I can see that the engine is peeing without start it.

5) does it means that the Dealer has removed the T-stat? do you recommend to ask him to reinstall it after the 2 overheat without any reason?

If testing the water pump the best way is to put on a boat in the water. Or deep in a barrel of some sort. The muffs will force water past the water pump.

It wouldn't be hard to pop the thermostat cover off and see if there is a thermostat in there. That stat has also been upgraded from original and the tell tale needs to be relocated. There is a service bulletin from the 90's that addressed this. Sounds like you are getting the air pockets. Have your dealer research or do it yourself. There are several how-to posts on this site for that very issue. racerone put the last one up that I remember. He is really knowledgeable about this.
