I'm awaiting a manual and not sure if my 1976 Evinrude 70 HP has a thermostat or not?? I never really thought about it until reading some on this site. Water seems to flow out of the top ports pretty much immediately after start up. If anyone can let me know, I would appreciate it as I'll need to change it this season..

Thanks.

Re: thermostat question

not only is the t-stat under that cover but two springs and two pressure control valves. clean or replace the grommets for the valves. make sure the metal under the grommet is clean as well. the t-stat cover is on the head held on with 4 bolts. cant miss it :)

Yep, Rodbolts right -- cant miss it. It'll jump right out at ya. Literally. Those springs can pop the cap right at you, just be ready.

Re: thermostat question

Another one for the wise men:

Don't these engines have a temperature alarm/buzzer. If so, is it a good idea to change out the temperature switch? Also, where is the buzzer located? Is it in the remote control box (I have a later model throttle control from circa. 1998). Just wondering because I rebuilt this motor 5 years ago after a burnt top piston and do not recall hearing a buzzer??

Also, rodbolt, re: the springs and the potential for "explosive surprises," I will be sure to empty the bladder before beginning...
