Hi, I was changing my 5.7 thermostat and broke the old plastic sleve, the new one wont sit entirely in. Is thah normal or should I file it down all the way?

Thanks for the help

The white sleeve typically sticks out just a bit such as you can see here, http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...-or-sleeve-out

What year is the boat/engine?
If your T/housing looks similar to the ones in the photos linked, Be sure the cork gasket is installed in the housing first before the thermostat is set in place. Also the intake to T/housing gasket with the brass rivets goes on dry.

Mine sticks out like that too. It is normal. Make sure you use the gasket with the rivets for grounding.

The only time you need to use the gasket with the grounding rivets is if you're water temp senser is located in the thermostat housing. If it's located in the intake manifold it's not so crucial..

that might be a problem, my thermostat housing does not have the rivets. There is signs that it had them but no rivets in place now. and my temp sensor is in the housing

Most have the temp sensor and switch in the housing unless it is really old.
