Thermostat temp?

1970 MC-1 drive 165 L-6 Mercruiser getting mixed info, 140* or 160* raw water cooled. thanks

what u using for 38 years?just getting around to asking now!haaaaaa guess would be 160 cause that motor in a latter vintage my friend has and he uses a 160.

Then your friend is a dummy, the raw water cooled GM I-6 uses a 140 degree t stat regardless of vintage......
The last Merc I6 was in the early 80's.....

Thanks Haut, just wanted to verify it but when i looked up the application there was a short period of serial#s in the 80s area that called for 160* but mine is 140* so will try it. Cheif, Since i just got the boat ( all apart) I wouldn't know what was in it for the last 30 years!
