I have a 1987 50Hp Force it was giving me problems overheating, seems the thermostat was stuck, took it out runs ok, can I leave it out?

Not reccommended.Motor needs to warm promptly<br />and run at ideal temp.for best performance and engine life.<br /> NAPA lists a thermostat for your motor 18-3556.

outboard mechanic also told me once that thermostats act as flow restrictor and help to maintain water squeeze against jackets for optimal cooling .

Ill second that spike, like the sig. you also have a possibility of over/ under cooling a cylinder, which could lead to powerhead damage.(steam pockets)
