Re: thermostat

What engine are you talking about? Give us the model number and maker.

Modern outboards are designed to run at higher temperatures than the water ever gets even in Florida. As a rule, you need the thermostat(s) to let the engine run at the proper operating temperature.

But, without know what engine you have, there's no way to tell what might happen if you don't have thermostats.

We can help, but you have to give us something to work with.

Re: thermostat

My 2 cents, if the engine didn't need a tstat they wouldn't have put one in it.
It may run but it won't run like it should.
Leave them in.

Re: thermostat

They will run but you shorten the life of the engine when you do. Max temp of the waater in Fl is around 85 degrees. These engines are designed to run @ 140-150 degrees. They will also not idle well with the t-sats out.

Do a search on this. This comes up from time to time with always the same replys - - don't do it!

Re: thermostat

Solittle is correct. Likely your engine will run cool. If an engine runs cool, (107-110 degrees)it will have an adverse long term effect on the engine. Engines that run cool don't come up to normal combustion (145-150) temps and you may have running or idling issues, not to mention poorer fuel economy. They may smoke more. In addition, cool running engines tend to develop carbon quicker on the rings and that can lead to powerhead failure. Run the thermostats.

Re: thermostat

I live in Florida and my motor has the thermostat in it. Actually the Gulf temp gets downright hot in the summertime and you could probably get away without the stat, though no reason to. But remember, it does get cold down here too, in spite of what the chamber of commerce tells the Yankees.
