Ok... So I changed the water pump on my 1998 9.9 merc. First time I'd ever done it. Any who, when I got the lower unit back on and started the motor, no water. I was like oh sh*t! But I I wasn't sure if it was a faulty water pump job or the thermostat not calling for water. I started getting nervous and shut the motor down. I ended up taking the thermostat cover off and removed the thermostat. There was a lot of crud on it. I'm not sure if this was the problem or not. I ended up putting the cover back on without the thermostat. I fired up the motor and wa-la. I had water. My question is, is there any problem with leaving the thermostat out? I like knowing I have water flow and it removes any question about the thermostat. Thoughts?
