I have a pair of boat buckle ones which do not retract. They install super fast and not had any issues with them yet.

Could you be doing them up too tight?
The plated hook looks like it has opened up a bit, you can put a lot of pressure on with those things maybe more than you really need.

See if you can get a set of straps made in the US (avoid assembled in US). I really question the quality of the metal used on these items and the extra cost is worth it for critical safety components.

Well seeing how they are all corroded from neglect I can understand why they don't work, the pictures very clearly show that.

Simple paddle type straps work best.

I just received the retractable straps as a gift, but will keep the old ones just in case.

it might help if you knew how to use them.... you have the whole strap rolled up.... you are supposed to pull the slack out and then ratchet tight.... you end up with 1-3 wraps that way.... Don't feel bad LOTS of folks get this wrong

Yes! Sixmark! They very clearly do! Only 2 months old! Thank you for pointing that out! Garbage, and ya know what, if u dont believe me, buy some... Enjoy the very first time you use them because after theyre first dunk in a beautiful gulf, like mine, dont expect to be able to use them again... I was only trying to help... I mean gosh... If I cant figure out how to use a. Simple transom strap, I probably should just stick to matchbox cars... ;)

Why would you dunk your transom straps in the gulf? I could see it if they were the retracting straps that bolt to the trailer but those should be off of the back and stowed before you ever get to the ramp....

btw no offense intended..... I bet 90% of people just crank the whole strap up without knowing how to do it right

Get a pair of motorcycle tie downs. They are protected against corrosion and don't require ratcheting. The cam lock has teeth built into it. just pull snug and tie a loose half hitch behind the buckle. Much quicker and easier.

I guess maybe I don't get it? I'm not trying to upset you, but I know of more than one set of these in regular use for years and have never heard anything bad about them.... I was only trying to help you..... I actually was looking forward to the video you promised

I was wondering the same thing, I take my transom straps off before putting the boat in the water, if for some reason they ever went in salt water I would rinse them off immediately and spray the ratchet with WD40 or similar product.

Don't think I've ever seen ratchet straps used as transom tiedowns, is that common?

I use them on mine, but I also have experience as a flatbed truck driver so I don't ratchet the hell out of them. Over tightening is just as dangerous as not being tight enough.

I'm still curious as to why they'd ever be dunked in any water, esp. salt water..........the ones I've used, and I've used both ratcheting and cam locking types, have never gotten wet from wherever I've launched my boat. Rain, maybe, but never dunked in any lake, pond, river, Gulf, ocean, etc., and none have ever looked like yours. Just wondering why yours get dunked?
