I just finished installing a new igniton in the gearbox of my 1976 Johnson 70hp, I tested the choke, cranked the motor then one of the mounting bolts I stupidly left sitting loose in the box touched one of the exposed terminals on my overtemp horn and there was a spark. Now I am not getting any power to the motor or choke. I know the igniton is working though. I am worried that I fried my stator, can anyone confirm this or tell me how to test it myself? If the stator is in fact cooked I have another question. I have a 50hp Johnson that is the same year and essentially looks like the same motor. I just had a new stator put on this last year but blew a cylinder. Can I use the stator from this motor on my 70hp? It looks identicle to me but I have not taken the flywheel off either motor to be sure. Also, if the stator is bad I would really appreciate a brief description on how to remove it. It looks like its mainly just a question of removing the nut on the top of the flywheel? Thanks in advance for any help, I am relying on you guys for this one
