Dont know which to buy either a motorguide or a minkota. both about the same price but dont want to pay alot for one around 42lbs or so to replace my 27 lb motorguide. Give me some ideas or suggestions on which you prefer and why. Thanks!

I would go with the MK with the composite shaft. From all I have read, they hold up a lot better than the steel shafts that come with the MotorGuide. I would also get the biggest one you can see reasonable to purchase. It always best to have the extra thrust when you don't need it as apposed to needing it and not having it. Ya know??

Agree with kerrick, Minn Kota is the Gold Standard in trolling motors. Their composite shaft is 2nd to none. Also look into their "Pulse Modulation" motors as found on the Minn Kota Maxxum. Variable speed and much more efficient than the motors with set speeds. They cost a little more, but it's worth the extra money.

Minn Kota's are a good quality product. Used many in the family over the years and have only replaced them to buy a bigger one.
