I have an old (1985) sea ray Seville that is mechanically sound but has some soft spots in the floor. At the end of this season, I'm kicking around the idea of gutting the interior and totally redoing the stringers and floor. I do think the transom is ok because I did some preliminary checking, but if it's bad obviously that would have to go too. In my research I'm finding out this job is quite tedious, but certainly do-able for the persistent and methodical diy'er.

My twisted idea is this: why not rebuild the stringers and floor out of composite lumber? I'd be curious to know if anyone has experience with trying this or has given it any thought. I'm thinking the extra cost compared to marine plywood wouldn't be that bad and this stuff is going to last a lot longer than the best grade wood and and top quality glass work. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's why I'm here to find out. Thanks for your input.
