Thinking of a 1985 Sea Ray Seville 19' Cabin

Any opinion on this boat? I've seen a classified on it and was thinking of upgrading from my 15' bowrider.

1985 19.5' Sea Ray Seville w/ trailer.

Mercruiser 150 h.p I/O

Been sitting in my driveway for about 5 years (winterized and covered).

I have not personally checked the boat and trailer out, yet.

Own says trailer needs new wiring and some grease.

NADA has the dry weight at barely above 2,000 lbs and even with trailer, I can still tow it with my class 2 hitch.

Asking price is $700.

Just keep in mind something that old will be about condition rather than who made it in the first place. I can't imagine a $700 boat not being a money pit.

I owned a 1986 seville from 98-2002. It was a decent boat for what it was. Mine had the 120HP 4 cylinder and loaded up it was underpowered. I sold it when I found a good deal on a 24ft. I'm sure it had wood rot when i bought it, but I was new to owning a boat and it looked nice, by the time I sold it, it definitely needed new engine stringers and probably all new stringers throughout. The new buyer knew this, but I had discounted the price so much he didn't care. I always kept it covered and on a trailer, but I think the damage was done before I bought it. Live and learn I guess. I looked over the bilge very well and just thought some things didn't make sense as far as water draining goes.

A 1985 $700 boat should be considered a project boat and nothing more.

If the engine runs and trailer isn't rusted out it may be worth it, because that's all you'll be paying for... the hull will be free.

For $700 you'll need to do a full restoration on it which will cost $2-$4K and a lot of work and sweat... but when you're finished with it you'll have a like new boat for a very small fraction of the cost of a brand new one.
